Welcome to our website, BeautifulHorseJewelry.com, where we will be discussing all types of jewelry with a horse-theme. Broaches, necklaces, bracelets, earrings, charms, etc…you name it, we will be dealing with it all. Let’s get started by giving a bit of a background to these wonderful pieces of jewelry.
Jewelry with horses on it has fascinated people throughout the ages, from all the way back to the ancient times, to our present era today. Families would often incorporate the design of the horse into their jewelry, and make these pieces out of various precious metals, such as gold, silver, and diamonds. Often passed down from generation to generation, they became valuable keepsakes.
So, why the need or desire to incorporate an “animal” into the precious jewelry that you own, love, and show? Well, the horse is symbolic of very desirable traits…traits that we all hope to possess. What are these traits? They are:
a) Grace – A horse is a very graceful creature. Just watch them run along a beautiful meadow. Every muscle and tissue of their being seems uniquely manufactured to perform the task…making it run. A beautiful streamlined creature, they are the heart’s desire of many a young girl. Especially telling is horse jewelry involving diamonds. A diamond is known as a gemstone of elegance and class…one that marries perfectly with equestrian design.
b) Strength – Along with the grace of the animal is the strength. Throughout the ages horses have been used to perform many duties for man. Consider the work horses like the Clydesdale. They are graceful and beautiful, yes, but also strong and powerful enough to pull those famous Budweiser Wagons. A piece of jewelry that incorporate the horse design can exude the power and strength of the animal. These forms of jewelry are especially popular as gifts to that special man in your life.
c) Nobility - What a noble create the horse is. In the middle ages knights rode horses, fully armored, with horse designs incorporated into their shields. What did the peasants do? They walked along side them…no horse, no armor, and no shields…let alone one with a horse design. Fast forward to today, where people of high ranking are often honored with horse jewelry, particularly gold brooches and medallions, with the design of a horse’s head engraved into the piece. Rings with the design of a horse’s head are often awarded as a sign of “higher social class” or “nobility”.
We have up til now left out the main reason people wear horse jewelry. Do you know what that is? It’s merely that they love horses, and want to show this love of the animal off to the world. They have to work, have to study, have to go here and there, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t show their love of their horses via their jewelry.
What types of horse jewelry are out there anyway? Here’s just a small sampling:
- horse jewelry
- silver horse jewelry
- gold horse jewelry
- sterling silver horse jewelry
- horse jewelry boxes
- arabian horse jewelry
- celtic horse jewelry
- diamond horse jewelry
In the posts to follow we will be detailing some of the finer examples of horse jewelry, and providing you with details on where you can obtain them. Welcome one and all…

Have you ever seen the popular television show “The Dog Whisperer”? It highlights a man who loves dogs, and has a unique ability to communicate with them, and train them as well. The book “The Man Who Listens to Horses” offers a similar story, about a man who is able to train and communicate with horses. Written by Monty Roberts, it showcases the internal workings of a horse’s mind. In this article I will be offering my humble opinion on this remarkable book, and offer what I think are some of the highlights that I think other readers might enjoy.
Monty Roberts is a remarkable man, with a story to tell. He grew up with an abusive father who not only abused him, but his horses as well. This formed a strong impression on the young Monty, and as he grew into a man he started to formulate thoughts on “there must be a better way” to communicate with these magnificent creatures.
The “join-up” technique is the author’s technique to break and train horses. The book goes into great detail on the process, but here it is in a nutshell. You need a round pen and an unbroken horse to start. The handler will stand in the middle of the pen in a very authoritative and imposing way, while the horse is encouraged to run around the pen in attempts to get away. During the process the handler will be looking for signs that the horse wishes to communicate with him. These three signs are:
The horse will gradually turn the ear that is closest to the handler towards him/her.
The horse will begin a process of chewing and licking.
As the horse runs around the pen he will move his head closer to the ground.
When the handler is assured that the horse wishes to communicate, he/she will turn his back and start to gradually move away. The horse will then come closer to the handler, and permit the handler to touch him. Now that contact has been established, the saddling, bridling, mounting, and riding process can begin.
In addition to the “join-up” technique, the book takes us on a journey of Robert’s life as well. We learn of the various stages of his life, how he developed his horse techniques, and what has made him into the man that he is today. Some of the highlights in the book are:
-The successful childhood riding career of the author
-The author’s encounters with his father
-The development of his Thoroughbred racehorse facility
-His meeting with Queen Elizabeth II of England
-Using the join-up technique with wild deer
-Mustang horses and the author’s experiences with them
-Three of his favorite horses: Brownie, Johnny Tivio, and Dually
If you love horses, and would love to learn of a very humane way to train and communicate with them, then this book is for you. Check it out, read it over, and let the information wrap around your mind.

You have probably heard of a charm bracelet before? They have been around for years, but during the 1990s another type of charm bracelet started to appear on the scenes in the United States. It is called the Italian charm bracelet. Do you know what this is? Do you know how these two types of charm bracelets differ? What do Italian charm bracelet charms look like? In this article we will be exploring the world of the Italian charm bracelet. Welcome, and enjoy…
The whole craze for these bracelets began in Italy. Over the years their popularity grew to the point where even soccer players were wearing versions of them displaying the Italian flag. When American tourists spotted them in Italy in the 1990s, they brought them back to the United States, and they caught on here as well.
The links of an Italian charm bracelet are made from an Italian charm face soldered onto an Italian charm link. These faces are usually comprised of either a design or an image. They differ from a regular charm bracelet charm in that they are flat and modular and hook together nicely. There are over 5000 different designs of Italian charm bracelet charms on sale today, and they range in price from a low of about $3 to $50 per charm.
The size of a person’s wrist will determine the size of the Italian charm bracelet. That’s simple enough to figure out. Women usually require about 16 to 19 links of charms. Children require less, usually between 13 to 15 links. Men (especially those with large wrists) may require 20 or more links.
A “starter” Italian charm bracelet typically consists of blank links, meaning “place holder” links which do not have a design or an image. In order to personalize this bracelet, each link is replaced with an individually designed Italian charm.
But how do all these charms link together? There is standard sizing across all brands of Italian charms, so they are compatible and work together, and are interchangeable. This means that individual links can be switched out for either a new look, or if your interests or mood happen to change.
The flexibility due to the Italian charm bracelet means that charms can be grouped together to follow various themes. Popular themes include special events, travel, animals, flowers, career, hobby, family, or even a specific color. These groupings can be made up of photo Italian charms, laser Italian charms, authentic licensed Italian charms, hand-painted Italian charms, dangle Italian charms, and deluxe Italian charms.
Stainless steel backing is the most popular choice of materials for Italian charms. They will then have either a gold-plated or 18-karat gold charm face. Solder or glue joins the face of the charm to the stainless steel link. Sometimes a gemstone is added to the design of the charm.
Did you enjoy this little summary of Italian charm bracelet charms (and the associated bracelet)? We sure hope so. Although they entered into the mainstream consciousness of the citizens of the United States back in the 1990’s, they are still growing strong. There is no sign of them letting up any time soon.
